The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has crossed a significant milestone, with RippleX announcing that AI-powered agentic transactions have exceeded one million. However, the price of XRP has not mirrored this network activity, slipping 2% in the last 24 hours to trade at $1.11 as broader market caution persists.
AI Transactions Surge on XRPL
RippleX, the development arm behind the XRP Ledger, revealed that autonomous AI agents have now executed over one million transactions on the network. These so-called agentic transactions are payments initiated and completed by AI agents without requiring human approval at each step, operating within predefined rules such as spending limits and policy controls.
Speaking to The Block, RippleX Head Engineer Ayo Akinyele projected rapid adoption growth, estimating the network could process 10 million AI-driven transactions in the near term and potentially surpass 100 million within the next few years as AI infrastructure matures. Developers are increasingly deploying autonomous agents to purchase APIs, computing resources, datasets, and other digital services automatically, and RippleX believes the XRPL's fast settlement speeds and efficient payment infrastructure make it well-suited for this emerging market.
This milestone comes amid a broader push for AI integration in crypto, with projects like Stellar (XLM) also seeing network activity gains. However, XRP's price action tells a different story.
Geopolitical Tensions Weigh on Sentiment
Despite the network's AI boom, XRP's price has struggled to maintain upward momentum. The token had benefited earlier in the week from optimism around progress on the US Clarity Act and easing inflation data, reaching a weekly high of $1.16. But those gains have been eroded as geopolitical tensions—particularly the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran—dampen investor appetite for risk assets.
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index, a widely followed sentiment gauge, slipped further into Fear territory, dropping from 39 to 37 on Friday. This cautious outlook has reduced demand for digital assets, including XRP and related investment products, even as macroeconomic conditions show signs of improvement.
Technical Resistance Caps Upside
From a technical perspective, XRP faces several overhead resistance levels that are limiting bullish momentum. The token currently trades below its key exponential moving averages: the 50-day EMA at $1.15, the 100-day EMA at $1.23, and the 200-day EMA at $1.44. These moving averages act as significant barriers, and XRP has been consolidating over the past two days as buyers and sellers battle for control.
However, XRP remains above the middle Bollinger Band near $1.11, suggesting short-term support is holding. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits around 54, indicating moderate buying momentum without overbought conditions, while the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains in positive territory, signaling that the recent rebound is still intact.
If buyers regain control, XRP could test the 50-day EMA at $1.15 and the 100-day EMA at $1.23. A daily close above these levels could pave the way for a retest of the $1.44 resistance, strengthening the bullish outlook. On the downside, failure to hold the $1.11 support could see XRP retest $1.06, with a break below that level potentially triggering a deeper correction.
The divergence between network adoption and price performance is a recurring theme in crypto markets. While the AI transaction milestone underscores growing utility on the XRPL, near-term price action remains tethered to macro factors and technical resistance. For context, XRP's recent rally to $1.16 was fueled by whale accumulation and AI transaction news, but sustaining those gains has proven challenging amid broader market headwinds.
As AI infrastructure continues to mature, the XRPL's role in facilitating autonomous payments could become a key growth driver. But for now, investors are weighing the network's technological progress against a cautious macro backdrop.
