Zcash (ZEC) has extended its recent rally, climbing nearly 12% over the past 24 hours to trade around $1,190 on September 7. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency briefly touched $1,249 during the session, bringing its seven-day gain to more than 45%. This move follows a breakout above the $1,000 mark on September 4, which has accelerated buying pressure and forced a wave of short liquidations.
The primary catalyst behind Zcash's surge remains the launch of Grayscale's Zcash ETF (ticker: ZCSH), which began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25. The fund provides US investors with a regulated avenue for direct exposure to ZEC, and it has attracted significant inflows since its debut. By September 4, net inflows had reached at least $34.4 million, including $12.6 million on September 2 alone. Total net assets now stand at roughly $463 million, underscoring sustained institutional interest.
Leveraged traders have amplified the price action. The initial break above $1,000 triggered liquidations of approximately $34 million to $36 million in short positions. As ZEC continued higher, additional short sellers entered the market, creating a feedback loop that has driven prices upward. According to Coinglass's 24-hour liquidation heatmap, several liquidity clusters remain above the current price, including zones around $1,215–$1,220, $1,245–$1,255, and $1,265–$1,280. If ZEC pushes through these levels, further short covering could add fuel to the rally.
Below the market, liquidity is concentrated near $1,165–$1,170, with larger clusters at $1,130–$1,140 and $1,105–$1,120. These levels could act as support if the momentum stalls.
Beyond ETF demand, Zcash's privacy technology continues to attract attention. Grayscale positioned ZCSH as a way to gain exposure to financial privacy, bringing the privacy-coin theme into a mainstream investment product. Additionally, the Zcash ecosystem is progressing with the NU7 governance process, which is set to conclude its coinholder vote on September 14. Eligible ZEC holders who had funds spendable and shielded in the Ironwood pool at the August 24 snapshot are participating in the vote on the scope and readiness of NU7.
Technical Analysis: ZEC/USDT Daily Chart
ZEC's daily chart shows a steep ascent from the $800 area at the start of September to nearly $1,250. The 20-day exponential moving average (EMA) has climbed to $877.85, while the 50-day EMA sits at $710.60. The 100-day and 200-day EMAs are lower at $604.60 and $506.00, respectively. Price remains above all four averages, and their bullish ordering supports the ongoing uptrend.
The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicator stands at 0.32 on the daily chart, remaining firmly positive. This suggests that buying pressure continues to outweigh selling pressure even after the move above $1,000.
Immediate resistance is at the recent high of $1,249. A daily close above $1,250 could open the door to $1,300, with $1,400 as the next target if buyers maintain control.
Technical Analysis: ZEC/USDT 4-Hour Chart
On the 4-hour chart, ZEC is trading near $1,191 after touching the upper Bollinger Band during the latest push. The upper band is at $1,255.16, nearly matching the recent price high, while the middle band has risen sharply to $1,074.21. ZEC has pulled back slightly below the upper band, leaving $1,255 as the first level to clear for the breakout to continue.
The Money Flow Index (MFI) is at 62.11, below the 80 level typically associated with overbought conditions, despite the sharp rise. This suggests there may be room for further upside.
If ZEC fails to regain $1,250, the first support to watch is $1,170, where the liquidation heatmap shows a concentration of leveraged positions. Below that, the Bollinger Band midpoint around $1,074 becomes a critical support level. The lower Bollinger Band currently sits near $893.27, meaning a break below $1,074 could open a larger gap toward $900. Holding above the middle band would keep the 4-hour structure intact after the breakout from $1,000.
As ZEC continues to benefit from ETF demand and a tightening short squeeze, traders will be watching key levels closely. The combination of institutional inflows and technical momentum suggests that the path of least resistance remains to the upside, though volatility is likely to persist.
