Zcash (ZEC) extended its rally above the $1,000 mark on Friday, propelled by robust bullish momentum and increasing demand for privacy-focused digital assets. The cryptocurrency has now gained roughly 95% since the start of 2026, building on an extraordinary advance of over 800% in the previous year.
Institutional interest remains a key driver. Grayscale's Zcash exchange-traded fund (ticker: ZCSH), which began trading on NYSE Arca in August, has climbed 25% since its listing. The fund reached a record pre-market price of $80.17 on Friday, underscoring sustained appetite for regulated exposure to ZEC.
On-chain data also points to growing usage of Zcash's privacy features. The total amount of ZEC held in shielded pools has risen to 4.86 million tokens, representing 28.76% of the cryptocurrency's total supply. A significant portion—approximately 3.86 million ZEC—is held in the Ironwood Pool, the network's most secure shielded environment, which features independent audits and quantum-recoverable note formats.
Further support for privacy infrastructure may come from improved hardware wallet integration. Vizor Wallet recently completed a shielded transaction signed directly on a Ledger device, suggesting that full Ledger support for private Zcash transactions is in development. This could lower barriers for institutional and retail users seeking enhanced privacy.
Technical outlook: key levels to watch
From a technical perspective, the ZEC/USD 4-hour chart shows an extremely bullish structure. Zcash is trading above $1,000 after reaching its highest level in nine years, following a breakout above the January 2018 peak of $900. That breakout has strengthened the near-term bullish case.
Despite the recent surge, ZEC remains far below the roughly $30,000 price recorded shortly after its initial listing, a level influenced by intense speculation and extremely limited token supply. The current advance is more measured, supported by growing institutional and retail adoption.
On the 4-hour chart, ZEC is approaching the 127.2% Fibonacci extension of the move from $465 to $888, which sits at $1,058. A decisive close above this resistance could open the door to the 161.8% extension at $1,322. The rising exponential moving averages reinforce the bullish outlook: the 50-period EMA is near $845, while the 100- and 200-period EMAs are positioned around $780 and $689, respectively.
Momentum indicators also favor buyers. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator continues to rise above its signal line in positive territory, suggesting that bullish pressure remains intact. However, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is hovering near 76, firmly in overbought territory. This signals strong momentum but also raises the possibility of a short-term pullback or consolidation.
If ZEC fails to clear $1,058, the recently reclaimed $888 level could provide initial support. Below that, sellers may target the 50-period EMA at approximately $845. The next major support area sits around $773, corresponding with the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level. As long as ZEC remains above these support zones, its broader bullish structure is likely to remain intact. A confirmed break above $1,058 would strengthen the case for an advance toward $1,322.
In the broader crypto market, Bitcoin's price action remains a key sentiment indicator, while privacy coin demand continues to be a theme as exchanges delist certain tokens. Zcash's resilience amid these trends highlights its unique position in the digital asset ecosystem.
