Ether.fi's native token, ETHFI, has rallied nearly 30% over the past seven days, trading around $0.51 as of August 17. The surge follows the protocol's Summer update, which expanded its product suite beyond staking into trading, borrowing, and payments. CoinGecko data shows ETHFI up 7.7% in the last 24 hours and 29.9% over the week, with a 27.9% gain over two weeks and 16.9% over the past month.

The rally unfolded in stages. Earlier in the week, ETHFI hovered between $0.37 and $0.39 before breaking above $0.40 on August 14. It then climbed through $0.45 and $0.47, reaching a weekly high near $0.52 on August 17. The momentum was largely fueled by the Summer release on August 13, which introduced tokenized stocks and metals via xStocks, allowing users to access traditional assets alongside crypto from the same app.

The update also added portfolio-backed borrowing through an integrated Aave market on Optimism, with rates around 4%, and expanded fiat access to over 30 currencies and payment methods. Ether.fi had already migrated its infrastructure to Optimism earlier this year, with more than 70,000 active cards, 300,000 accounts, and $200 million in TVL now on OP Mainnet.

For ETHFI holders, the protocol's revenue structure is a key catalyst. Ether.fi directs a portion of protocol revenue to staked ETHFI holders through programmatic token buybacks. The governance had previously approved buyback programs, including a treasury program authorizing up to $50 million in purchases while the token trades below $3. The Summer update extends this by linking revenue from staking, payments, borrowing, and trading to automatic ETHFI purchases, meaning increased product usage could feed directly into token demand.

Large-holder activity has also contributed to the rally. One whale withdrew roughly 5 million ETHFI (about $1.93 million) from Binance, while other large holders accumulated through CoW Protocol. While exchange withdrawals don't guarantee long-term holding, they can reduce immediate selling pressure if tokens are not returned to exchanges.

Technical Analysis: Breakout Above Key Averages

ETHFI's daily chart shows a significant technical shift, with price breaking above the 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day simple moving averages. At around $0.514, the token trades above the 50-day SMA at $0.409, the 100-day SMA near $0.386, and the 200-day SMA around $0.433. The 200-day average is particularly notable, as ETHFI had spent months below it. Holding above $0.433 would keep the breakout intact, while the 50-day SMA is starting to rise, though it remains below the 200-day, so a bullish crossover hasn't completed yet.

Momentum indicators are bullish but stretched. The daily MACD line has risen to roughly 0.0198 versus a signal line near 0.0051, with the histogram expanding to around 0.0147. A rising positive histogram confirms accelerating bullish momentum. However, if the histogram contracts while ETHFI struggles near $0.52, it could signal waning strength.

On the 4-hour chart, ETHFI remains above the Supertrend indicator at approximately $0.466, favoring buyers. The 4-hour RSI is around 74.6, above its moving average and the conventional overbought threshold of 70. This confirms strong momentum but also suggests the token is stretched after the rapid rise from below $0.40.

Key Levels to Watch

Immediate resistance sits at $0.52, where the rally has stalled. A daily close above that could open a move toward $0.55, a level that acted as a trading zone earlier this year. If buyers clear $0.55, the $0.60 area becomes the next major target based on previous price action.

On the downside, the 4-hour Supertrend around $0.466-$0.47 provides the first support. A pullback into that zone while RSI resets from overbought levels could leave the uptrend intact. A deeper decline would bring the daily 200-day SMA around $0.433 into focus. Losing that level on a sustained basis would weaken the breakout and put the 50-day SMA near $0.409 back in play.

Investors should also monitor broader market conditions, as crypto sentiment can shift quickly. The recent rally in ETHFI coincides with a period of relative stability in risk assets, but any macro shock could test the token's resilience. For context, rising bond yields have pressured risk assets in other markets, and weak US jobs data has influenced global sentiment. While ETHFI's fundamentals are improving, traders should remain cautious about overbought conditions.
