Zcash (ZEC) is holding above the $500 mark on Monday, consolidating within a tight range while shielded coins continue shifting to the newly upgraded Ironwood pool. The privacy-focused cryptocurrency remains above its key moving averages, but subdued derivatives activity and neutral momentum indicators suggest buyers are not yet ready to push for a decisive breakout.

Shielded Supply Migration to Ironwood

Data from Zkp.baby shows that the migration from the older Orchard pool to Ironwood is progressing steadily. The amount of ZEC held in the Orchard pool dropped nearly 17% over the past 24 hours to 1.49 million ZEC, while Ironwood's shielded balance rose 14.5% to 2.30 million ZEC. This shift reflects users moving funds between privacy pools rather than exiting shielded circulation entirely.

Total shielded supply has stabilized at approximately 4.36 million ZEC, recovering sharply from an August 1 low of 3.65 million ZEC. The rebound indicates a modest recovery in the use of Zcash's privacy features following recent security concerns.

The migration follows a critical security vulnerability discovered in late May that could have allowed attackers to create counterfeit coins. Developers deployed an emergency hard fork on June 3 and completed the major Ironwood upgrade in late July, introducing a more secure environment for shielded transactions. This upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to maintain Zcash's value proposition as a scarce digital asset.

Derivatives Activity Eases

Speculative demand for Zcash is cooling as risk appetite across the broader cryptocurrency market remains subdued. CoinGlass data shows that ZEC futures open interest declined 1.3% over the past 24 hours to $884.94 million, indicating that traders are closing positions or reducing exposure rather than committing additional capital.

Funding rates have also softened, falling to 0.0075% from 0.0098% the previous day. While the positive rate still favors long positions, its decline suggests that demand for leveraged bullish exposure is weakening.

Technical Outlook: Resistance Ahead

Zcash's technical structure remains constructive. The token trades above the 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) at $490, the 100-day EMA at $469, and the 200-day EMA at $414, reinforcing the broader upward trend. The 50-day and 100-day EMAs provide important support if ZEC experiences another pullback.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits near 55, slightly above its neutral midpoint, indicating mild bullish momentum but far from overbought territory. Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line is moving sideways above its signal line, suggesting that buying pressure has flattened.

Zcash faces its first significant resistance at $532, which corresponds with the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement of the advance from the $368 swing low to the $589 high. An overhead descending trendline near $548 strengthens the resistance cluster between $532 and $548. A sustained daily close above this area could confirm renewed bullish momentum and clear the way for a retest of the $589 swing high.

If ZEC breaks through $589, buyers could target higher levels. However, declining open interest and neutral momentum indicators suggest that a breakout may require renewed spot and derivatives demand.

On the downside, if Zcash falls below $500, the 50-day EMA at $490 would provide the first important support. The next defensive zone sits between the 100-day EMA at $469 and the 50% Fibonacci retracement level at $478. Buyers will need to defend this area to preserve the constructive medium-term structure. A decisive break below $465 could weaken the outlook and expose lower support levels, with the 200-day EMA at $414 serving as a longer-term technical floor.

For now, Zcash remains bullish on its broader moving-average structure but neutral in the near term as it consolidates beneath the $532–$548 resistance area. Investors may also be watching related developments, such as the recent Ironwood-driven rally and the potential for a short squeeze.
