Injective's native token, INJ, has rallied sharply over the past week, climbing 45.7% in seven days and 10.9% in the last 24 hours to trade near $5.95. The surge is underpinned by a combination of regulatory milestones, expanding tokenized asset offerings, and an imminent token buyback.
SEC Registration Opens Regulated Path
The primary catalyst came on Aug. 19 when Injective Institutional Services secured registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a transfer agent. This designation allows the entity to maintain official records of securities ownership and facilitate transfers, distributions, and corporate actions, effectively giving Injective a regulated foothold in the tokenized securities market.
Following the announcement, INJ initially jumped 8-9%, and the momentum has since accelerated. The token moved from around $5.30 to nearly $6.00 in the latest 24-hour period, with the weekly gain reaching 45.7%.
Injective stated that the registration is part of its broader strategy to bring regulated financial markets and tokenized securities on-chain. By combining registered transfer-agent services with its blockchain infrastructure, the network can support the issuance and management of securities in a compliant manner.
Expanding Real-World Asset Exposure
Injective has also been broadening its footprint in traditional finance through its iAssets suite, which offers on-chain synthetic markets for assets like equities. These perpetual markets have previously recorded billions in daily trading volume, particularly for products tied to major technology stocks. This dual approach—regulated infrastructure plus synthetic trading venues—positions Injective to capture activity from both institutional and retail participants interested in real-world assets.
Buyback Program Adds Supply Squeeze
Supply dynamics are providing another tailwind. Traders are anticipating Injective's August Community BuyBack, a program established under IIP-617 that uses ecosystem revenue to purchase INJ tokens and permanently remove them from circulation. According to CoinMarketCap data, the August round could eliminate more than 33,000 INJ from supply. Separate reports suggest the allocation for the buyback, scheduled for Wednesday, exceeds $168,000, though Injective has not independently confirmed that figure.
Technical Indicators Point to Strength
On the daily chart, INJ has recovered from around $4 earlier in August to test the $6 resistance zone. Trading volume has increased during the rally, and the Aroon indicator supports the bullish momentum: Aroon Up stands at 92.86% versus Aroon Down at 50%, indicating that recent highs are occurring frequently, though some downside pressure remains.
The Accumulation/Distribution line has also turned upward from its August lows, sitting near -214.88 million, above its 21-period average of -218.89 million. This suggests that recent volume is increasingly associated with buying, lending more credibility to the breakout.
On the 4-hour chart, INJ is pressing against the upper Donchian Channel at $6.01, with the midpoint at $5.30 and the lower boundary at $4.58. A sustained break above $6.01 would put the token outside its recent 20-period range and could confirm another leg higher. However, the Williams %R indicator at -4.87 is deep in overbought territory (above -20), signaling that the short-term move may be stretched and a consolidation or pullback is possible.
Key Levels to Watch
If INJ can confirm a move above $6.00-$6.10, the next resistance zone lies around $6.50, followed by the June peak near $7.00-$7.20, provided buying volume remains strong. Conversely, failure to clear $6 could bring the first pullback zone around $5.50 into play. The 4-hour Donchian midpoint near $5.30 serves as the next support, with a deeper correction potentially targeting the $4.80-$5.00 region and the lower boundary near $4.58.
For context, Injective has seen similar rallies in the past, such as a 7% gain on trade finance pilot and mainnet upgrade and a 19% jump after Coinbase native support. The current move, however, is more pronounced, reflecting the significance of the SEC registration and the broader push into regulated tokenized assets.
As the market digests these developments, traders will be watching whether INJ can sustain its momentum or if the overbought conditions trigger a short-term correction.
