Broadcom (AVGO) shares advanced more than 4% on Tuesday, buoyed by a bullish analyst upgrade and news of a massive financing arrangement tied to the company's AI infrastructure business.

DA Davidson analyst Gil Luria raised his rating on the chipmaker to Buy from Neutral and lifted his price target to $400 from $350, implying roughly 22% upside from Monday's close. Luria cited the potential for continued artificial intelligence spending and upcoming public offerings by major AI developers as key drivers.

Anthropic IPO Valuation: S-1 Shows $65.2B Series H, No Price Range Yet
Anthropic's S-1 filing leaves IPO price blank, but confirms $65.2B Series H at $589 per share. Media reports suggest $1.5T-$2T valuation, but it's unverified.

In a note to clients, Luria pointed to Anthropic's recent S-1 filing as a signal that the AI company's IPO will proceed, which would allow Anthropic to raise capital and potentially enable OpenAI to follow with its own public offering next year. He argued that Broadcom's current valuation, trading at about 16 times estimated 2027 earnings, reflects near-zero probability of these events materializing, creating significant upside if they do.

Luria also highlighted a disconnect in AI-related stock valuations. He noted that semiconductor names like Broadcom, Micron, and Nvidia are trading as if the AI spending boom is ending, with multiples ranging from five to 16 times projected 2027 earnings, while other AI-linked stocks appear to price in continued investment. He expects mean reversion, saying it is unlikely that several semiconductor companies will struggle while others thrive.

The upgrade comes as investors weigh the sustainability of AI infrastructure spending against the financing required to support it. Broadcom supplies specialized AI accelerators and networking equipment for large-scale data centers, making its outlook closely tied to capital expenditures by major AI developers.

On Monday, Anthropic filed its Form S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, preparing for a Nasdaq listing under the ticker ANT. The filing disclosed five-year master equipment leases with Broadcom, under which Anthropic will receive hardware for deployment in dedicated data center facilities operated by third parties. Rent payments over the lease terms total approximately $161.2 billion, excluding interest, with quarterly obligations beginning when equipment becomes ready for service.

To support these purchases, Bank of America, Blackstone, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley are providing $63 billion in financing, one of the largest debt deals tied to the AI infrastructure buildout. According to Reuters, first-lien loans or senior debt account for about $43.5 billion, or 69% of the total, with Blackstone providing the committed portion of second-lien financing. Broadcom is offering residual value support to lenders, providing significant protection within the structure.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said the transaction underscores the power of the company's technology and its conviction in the AI ecosystem, noting that the need for AI compute continues to grow at an extraordinary pace and that capital is available to finance such growth.

The analyst upgrade and financing announcement highlight the close links between AI infrastructure suppliers, model developers, and lenders. For Broadcom, the key question remains whether sustained investment by companies like Anthropic and OpenAI will translate into durable demand for its chips and networking equipment.
