Aave's native token is trading around $89, having failed to overcome a key technical barrier that has capped upside for nearly a year. The 20-week exponential moving average (EMA), currently near $96.70, has acted as resistance since October 2025. Each attempt to reclaim this level has been met with selling pressure, keeping the broader trend bearish.
If the token remains below this moving average, analysts see a potential slide toward the $49.50–$50 support zone, which aligns with the 1.0 Fibonacci retracement level. A move from $89 to $50 would represent a decline of roughly 44% to 45%. This area has historical significance, as AAVE attracted strong buying interest between 2022 and 2023 before eventually rallying toward $400.
However, previous support does not guarantee future defense. A decisive breakdown below $50 would invalidate the accumulation thesis and could extend the downtrend further. For now, the immediate focus is on the 20-week EMA, which serves as the first major hurdle for any recovery attempt.
Key Levels to Watch
The $96.70 level is critical. A weekly close above this EMA, followed by a successful retest as support, would weaken the bearish case. Such a move could open the door to the $105–$125 resistance zone, which includes previous horizontal supply. A breakout above that range would signal that buyers are regaining control after months of failed rallies.
On the downside, the $50 area remains the primary target if the current rejection persists. This zone has been a magnet for long-term investors in the past, and a revisit could present a historically significant accumulation opportunity. Yet, as with any support level, there is no certainty that it will hold.
Potential Bullish Pattern
AAVE's weekly chart shows a possible inverse head-and-shoulders formation, a classic bullish reversal pattern. The left shoulder formed near recent lows, the head dipped to around $60, and the right shoulder is currently developing near the price. The neckline sits near $105. A convincing breakout above this level could confirm the pattern and project a technical target near $200.
But confirmation requires more than just a move above $105. The token must first reclaim the 20-week EMA and then overcome the broader $105–$125 resistance cluster. Without these steps, the pattern remains unconfirmed, and the risk of another leg down persists.
Long-Term Moving Averages Add Resistance
Even if AAVE breaks above the neckline, several long-term moving averages could slow its recovery. The 50-week EMA is near $131, the 100-week EMA around $153, and the 200-week EMA near $167. These levels form a dense resistance zone between the current price and the potential $200 target.
Reclaiming these moving averages would provide stronger evidence that the long-term downtrend is ending. Conversely, failure to clear them could lead to fresh pullbacks, even after a breakout above $105. For context, other crypto assets are also facing technical hurdles; for instance, XRP's support at $1 is being tested, and Bitcoin hovers near key support ahead of CPI data.
Investors should monitor whether AAVE can sustain a weekly close above the 20-week EMA. A failure to do so would keep the bearish scenario in play, with $50 as the next major downside target. On the upside, a decisive break above $105 would shift the technical outlook significantly, though the path to $200 remains fraught with resistance.
