CoreWeave's stock has been under significant pressure in recent months, and the downward trend may persist as the flow of capital into artificial intelligence companies slows. The shares recently traded at $54.87, a decline of more than 70% from their all-time high. Technical analysis reveals a head-and-shoulders pattern, which often signals a bearish continuation.
AI funding environment weakens
Investor enthusiasm for AI-related ventures appears to be cooling. Australian firm Firmus recently withdrew its initial public offering after facing pushback on its $30 billion valuation. More notably, OpenAI, a major CoreWeave client, raised only $11 billion in its latest funding round, far below the $30 billion it had sought. Similarly, Nscale, a prominent British neocloud provider, is encountering resistance as it pursues a $35 billion valuation.
The concern is that if a leading company like OpenAI cannot secure sufficient capital, other AI firms, especially neoclouds, will face difficulties. Elon Musk recently warned that investors are skeptical about funding unprofitable AI companies and predicted that over 200 neocloud companies could go bankrupt.
CoreWeave's financial challenges
CoreWeave is confronting significant hurdles as investor skepticism grows. Its bond yields have surged to 15% in the secondary market, well above the 9% coupon set at issuance. The company plans to spend between $30 billion and $39 billion this year on data center expansion, and similar expenditures are likely next year, necessitating additional capital raises.
The upcoming earnings reports from major AI players, including Advanced Micro Devices and Arm Holdings, will provide insight into the sector's health. CoreWeave is scheduled to release its own earnings on November 10. Analysts expect revenue to have jumped 159% to $3.54 billion, driven by deals with Jane Street, OpenAI, and Microsoft. Full-year revenue is projected at $12.87 billion, with $26.47 billion expected next year. However, concerns about cash burn and financing remain.
Technical outlook points lower
From a technical standpoint, CRWV stock appears poised for further declines. The head-and-shoulders pattern has a neckline at $63.67, which has already been breached and retested. The stock remains below its 50-day moving average, reinforcing the bearish sentiment. If the pattern plays out, the next key support level is the all-time low of $33.47.
Investors will be watching the upcoming earnings and broader AI funding developments closely. The combination of weakening capital availability and technical bearishness suggests that CoreWeave's stock could face additional downside in the near term.
