SpaceX (SPCX) shares advanced roughly 2.5% on Tuesday, building on Monday's IPO close, as JPMorgan reiterated an Overweight rating and a $240 price target, implying about 74% upside from current levels. The bank's bullish stance centers on the company's expanding artificial intelligence initiatives and its broader enterprise strategy.
AI acquisition drives optimism
JPMorgan's outlook is partly underpinned by SpaceX's acquisition of Cursor, which closed on August 14. According to the bank, Cursor contributes approximately $4 billion in annual recurring revenue as of June 2026, with around 60% coming from business customers. The acquisition is seen as a key step in SpaceX's push to develop enterprise AI capabilities, providing valuable data for model training and supporting the company's go-to-market strategy.
The firm also noted that Cursor data has been incorporated into supplemental training for Grok, SpaceX's AI model. JPMorgan said it has observed improvements in recent model performance following the integration of Cursor data. This AI push adds another dimension to SpaceX's investment story as the company seeks to expand beyond its traditional aerospace and satellite businesses.
Massive Louisiana expansion
SpaceX is also scaling its physical infrastructure with plans for a new $100 billion launch facility in Louisiana. The Louisiana Economic Development office said SpaceX will establish Starbase, Louisiana, in Vermilion Parish to support thousands of launches annually. The facility is expected to serve as a main launch site for Starship, SpaceX's in-development rocket, which is designed to be fully reusable and is the largest rocket ever built or flown.
SpaceX said its search for a location with ample space for launch pads and access to sufficient fuel took about seven years. Elon Musk indicated the project could bring "probably 10,000 really exciting jobs" to Louisiana. The company also said it would collaborate with the state on a coastal restoration project aimed at restoring marshland and providing storm protection around the planned facility.
Starship remains central to valuation
The expansion comes as Musk pursues several ambitious projects across SpaceX, including a major expansion of the Starlink satellite network and plans for orbital data centers. The company also has longer-term ambitions involving human spaceflight and Mars. The success of Starship is therefore central to many of the initiatives underpinning SpaceX's valuation, particularly as the company seeks to support a market capitalization approaching $2 trillion.
For investors, JPMorgan's $240 target highlights the potential upside analysts see if SpaceX can successfully combine its aerospace and satellite businesses with its expanding AI ambitions. The Louisiana facility and Cursor acquisition add two significant pieces to that broader growth strategy.
