Zcash (ZEC) has pulled back from its recent peak, trading around $1,140 on Monday after a 6% decline over the past week. The token had reached its highest level in a decade near $1,300 before sellers stepped in, but trading activity remains robust, with roughly $1.4 billion in volume—over 7% of its circulating market cap—indicating that investor interest is far from fading.

Macro headwinds stall the rally

The rally hit a wall as macroeconomic concerns resurfaced. A stable inflation report initially sparked a broad crypto uptick on Friday, but gains evaporated as market odds for a Federal Reserve rate hike at the September 16 FOMC meeting climbed to nearly 90%. Investors are now focused on Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks for clues on how policymakers will tackle inflation, which remains well above the 2% target. The White House's push for lower rates adds another layer of uncertainty, as easing could exacerbate price pressures. This environment is prompting traders to trim risk ahead of the Fed decision.

Despite the pullback, ZEC has outperformed the broader market, gaining roughly 116% in 2026. Its privacy-focused technology and clear use case continue to attract demand. The network recently addressed a credibility issue after an audit found a vulnerability that could have allowed unlimited token minting. In response, the community launched Ironwood, a new vault that has since seen millions of ZEC migrate from the older Orchard vault, signaling sustained user confidence.

Privacy adoption on the rise

Adoption of Zcash's privacy features is also climbing. Data from ZecHub shows shielded transactions have hit their highest level in nearly two years, now representing 56% of all on-chain activity. This uptick underscores that Zcash's core privacy proposition remains a key driver for users, even as the token faces short-term price pressure.

Technical signals point to a correction

On the daily chart, a bearish divergence has emerged on the Relative Strength Index (RSI). While the price made a higher high near $1,300, the RSI formed a lower high, indicating that bullish momentum is waning. Such divergences often appear late in an uptrend and can precede a meaningful pullback. With liquidity thinning at higher levels and macro uncertainty rising, ZEC could retreat toward the $850 support zone. Traders may also lock in profits or buy put options ahead of the Fed meeting, adding to selling pressure.

However, the broader technical picture remains constructive. ZEC previously broke out of an ascending triangle pattern, which projects a longer-term target near $2,500. A dip to $850 could therefore represent a healthy reset within the uptrend rather than a reversal. If buyers step in at that level and hold it as support, the token could eventually resume its advance toward the $2,500 objective.

Near-term direction will likely hinge on the Fed's policy decision and the market's reaction. For more on key levels across crypto, see our analysis on Pi, Pepe, and Zcash technical levels. While the immediate outlook is cautious, the long-term fundamentals—privacy adoption, network upgrades, and a clear technical target—suggest that Zcash's rally may have more room to run once the macro fog clears.
