The cryptocurrency market remained subdued over the weekend as traders weighed rising crude oil prices and the upcoming Federal Reserve interest rate decision. Bitcoin and Ethereum hovered near $77,000 and $2,500, respectively, while the Crypto Fear and Greed Index settled at 68, indicating a state of "greed." Against this backdrop, several altcoins are showing distinct technical setups. This analysis focuses on Pi Network (PI), Pepe Coin (PEPE), and Zcash (ZEC).
Pi Network: Rising Wedge Points to Downside
Pi Coin has climbed from a July low of $0.0715 to the current $0.097, supported by anticipation around the upcoming V27 upgrade, which aims to enhance smart contract functionality. However, the technical picture is turning cautious. The token has formed a rising wedge pattern—a bearish reversal signal characterized by two ascending and converging trendlines. Typically, a breakdown occurs when the lines converge, and the price has already slipped below the 100-day exponential moving average (EMA). Additionally, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) shows a bearish divergence, suggesting weakening momentum.
If the wedge resolves downward, the most likely target is the year-to-date low of $0.07156. A move above the key resistance at $0.1110 would invalidate the bearish scenario. Traders should watch these levels closely as the V27 upgrade news could trigger volatility.
Pepe Coin: Bullish Pennant Signals Continuation
Pepe Coin has enjoyed a strong recovery, rallying from $0.0000022 in July to a high of $0.000004547 on August 22. The recent pullback to $0.000003478 has formed a falling wedge pattern, which is part of a larger bullish pennant—a continuation pattern that typically resolves upward. The pennant consists of a sharp vertical move (the flagpole) followed by a consolidation triangle.
Given the bullish context, the most probable outcome is a breakout above the wedge, targeting the resistance at $0.0000040. A drop below the lower trendline of the wedge would negate the bullish setup. Volume and broader market sentiment will be key to confirming the breakout.
Zcash: Overbought Conditions May Trigger Pullback
Zcash has been one of the standout performers, surging from a January low of $188 to a record high of $1,288. The rally was fueled by rising demand for privacy tokens and strong inflows into the recently launched Grayscale Zcash ETF (ZCSH). The coin has decisively broken above the November 2023 resistance at $747, confirming a long-term bullish trend.
However, the recent surge has pushed the RSI into overbought territory, and it has now formed a double-top pattern on the daily chart. The RSI has retreated from an extreme reading of 87 to 64, suggesting that buying pressure is fading. As a result, a pullback toward the $1,000 support level appears likely. A move above the all-time high of $1,288 would invalidate the bearish outlook and open the door for further gains.
Investors should also monitor the broader crypto market, as Bitcoin's direction often sets the tone for altcoins. The Fed's rate decision could introduce additional volatility across risk assets.
