Rubrik's stock extended its rally on October 23, reaching an all-time high as the AI boom fuels demand for cybersecurity solutions. Shares of RBRK climbed to $129.60, marking a 210% gain from its yearly low and lifting the company's market capitalization to $26.9 billion. However, the chart is showing a rising wedge pattern, a technical formation that often precedes a pullback.
AI-Driven Demand Boosts Rubrik's Business
The surge in Rubrik's stock reflects a broader trend: the rise of AI agents has escalated cybersecurity threats, prompting enterprises to invest heavily in data protection. In the second quarter, Rubrik's revenue jumped 38% year-over-year to $427.3 million, with subscription revenue up 37% to $407 million. The company's customer base is expanding, with the number of clients paying at least $100,000 annually rising 23% to 3,084. Notable customers include PepsiCo, Iron Mountain, and Adobe.
Analysts see further growth ahead. The consensus estimate for third-quarter revenue is $430 million, a 22% increase from the prior year, while fourth-quarter guidance points to $446 million, up 18%.
Analyst Sentiment and Valuation Concerns
Wall Street remains largely bullish on Rubrik. Dan Ives, who initiated coverage at Yorkville Ives, set a price target of $145, implying a 12% upside. Baird's Shrenik Kothari upgraded the stock to outperform, and Wedbush's Steven Wahrhaftig has a target of $120. Yet, the stock has already surpassed the average analyst target of $115, suggesting a potential 12% downside based on consensus.
The main risk is valuation. Rubrik trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 240, far above the technology sector median of 21. Its forward EV-to-EBITDA stands at 227, versus a sector median of 13. These multiples leave little room for error.
Technical Analysis: Rising Wedge and MACD Warning
On the charts, RBRK has been in a strong uptrend, climbing from a January low of $41.73 to current levels above $130. The stock broke above the key resistance at $92.26, its December high, and has stayed above the 50-day exponential moving average, which provides dynamic support. The Supertrend indicator also remains bullish.
However, the formation of a rising wedge—two ascending and converging trendlines—often signals a potential reversal. Additionally, the MACD indicator has flashed a bearish crossover. While the stock could push toward the $150 resistance level, the technical setup suggests that a retreat may follow as investors lock in profits.
