Litecoin climbed more than 13% over a 24-hour window to trade above $70, breaking through a price band that had repeatedly capped earlier recovery attempts. The move stood out because Bitcoin and most of the broader crypto market were trading under pressure at the same time.

According to market data, LTC changed hands near $70.84 after touching a low of $59.11 during the session. The token has advanced 34.7% over seven days and 38.6% over a month, though its one-year return remains negative at 33.1%.

Onchain activity provides the catalyst

Network metrics rose alongside the price. More than 17 million LTC, valued at roughly $1 billion, moved across the Litecoin blockchain within a single day, while the network processed about 158,500 transactions over 24 hours. The hashrate stood near 2.7 PH/s after gaining roughly 4.9% in the preceding day.

The pickup in onchain activity emerged as LTC approached the $64 to $65 zone, giving traders a network-based reason to watch the market while price was coiling below resistance. Once that band gave way, spot volume accelerated toward $948 million, roughly triple the level seen around September 18.

Derivatives add fuel

Futures open interest crossed $500 million as LTC pushed through resistance, a sign that traders were adding leveraged exposure during the move. As the price climbed toward $67.80, short positions were liquidated across major exchanges while long liquidations stayed comparatively small. Forced buying from those short liquidations can amplify a rally when spot prices are already rising.

A 24-hour liquidation heatmap shows LTC moving through several clusters of leveraged positions on its climb from about $60 to above $70. Remaining liquidity is concentrated near $72, with additional clusters extending toward $74 to $74.50. A push through those levels could trigger more short liquidations and add buying pressure. Below the market, liquidity is visible around $69 to $70, followed by a denser band between $64 and $66; a drop into those areas could expose long positions to liquidations and add selling pressure.

Technical picture

On the daily chart, Litecoin broke decisively above the upper Donchian Channel after several weeks of higher lows. At the time of analysis, LTC traded near $71.88, while the 21-day upper boundary sat at $63.23 and the lower boundary at $50.74. Price moved more than 13% above the upper band, and the breakout came with the largest daily volume bar on the recent chart.

The Directional Movement Index supports the strength of the trend. ADX stood at 45.83, well above the 25 level commonly associated with a strong directional move, while positive DI at 41.76 dwarfed negative DI at 8.64, leaving buyers firmly in control. Neither reading sets a price target on its own, but the combination of a Donchian breakout, rising volume and an ADX above 40 reinforces the move through $65.

On the 4-hour chart, momentum accelerated quickly. The nine-period Rate of Change rose to 13.04, and the 14-period Average True Range climbed to 2.62 from below $1 earlier in September, indicating wider intraday swings are likely while ATR remains elevated.

Levels to watch

The immediate upside area sits between $72 and $75. LTC has already traded as high as roughly $72 during the latest move, and the liquidation heatmap shows liquidity around $72 with further clusters toward $74 to $74.50. A sustained break through that zone would put $75 within reach.

Failure to hold $70 could send LTC back toward $68 to $69, where price consolidated during the latest intraday move and where leveraged liquidity is visible. A larger pullback would bring $64 to $66 back into focus, overlapping the previous breakout area and a dense band of liquidation levels. The daily Donchian boundary near $63.23 provides a clear invalidation level for the current breakout; a daily close back below that area would place LTC inside its previous trading range, while continued closes above $65 would leave the breakout structure intact.
