Cardano's ADA token extended its recent rally on Monday, climbing to its highest point since mid-May. The cryptocurrency reached $0.2663, marking a gain of over 96% from its yearly low. This upward momentum is being driven by a combination of technical factors and growing ecosystem activity.
Technical Setup Points to Further Gains
ADA has been in a clear uptrend since bottoming at $0.1388 in June. The price has consistently formed higher highs and higher lows, creating an ascending channel. Currently, ADA is testing the upper boundary of this channel, which could lead to a breakout or a short-term pullback.
A key technical indicator, the golden cross, is on the horizon. This occurs when the 50-day exponential moving average crosses above the 200-day moving average. While the cross has not yet formed, the narrowing gap between these two averages suggests it may be imminent. Historically, a golden cross is seen as a bullish signal, often preceding further price appreciation.
Additionally, ADA remains above the Supertrend indicator, which is currently green, indicating an ongoing uptrend. The price is also trading above the Ichimoku cloud, another bullish sign. If ADA breaks above the upper channel boundary, the next target could be the psychological level of $0.300. A move beyond that would bring the more significant resistance at $0.50 into focus. Conversely, a drop below the support at $0.2400 would negate the bullish outlook.
NIGHT Token Rally Boosts Sentiment
One of the primary catalysts for Cardano's recent strength is the impressive performance of the Midnight (NIGHT) token. NIGHT has surged from a July low of $0.01500 to a recent high of $0.05300, its highest level since late March. This rally is fueled by optimism that Midnight could become a major player in the privacy-focused blockchain space.
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has publicly stated that Midnight will surpass Zcash in terms of utility, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence and decentralized finance. This bullish commentary, combined with recent technical upgrades that allow developers to deploy smart contracts on the Midnight network, has attracted significant attention.
DEX Volume and Stablecoin Growth
Cardano's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem is also showing signs of robust health. According to DeFi Llama, DEX protocols on Cardano processed over $348 million in transactions during the third quarter, the highest level since the fourth quarter of last year. This surge in activity indicates growing user engagement and liquidity.
Furthermore, the total stablecoin supply on Cardano has reached a record high of over $67 million, a significant increase from just $19 million in March. The largest stablecoins on the network include USD Coin (USDC), Moneta, Anzens USDA, and Djed. This growth in stablecoin liquidity is often seen as a precursor to increased trading and DeFi activity.
However, not all metrics are positive. Network fees fell to $129,000 last quarter, down from $164,000 in the previous quarter, and the total value locked (TVL) in Cardano's DeFi protocols has been declining this month. These mixed signals suggest that while the ecosystem is expanding, there are still areas of concern.
Overall, Cardano's price action, combined with the NIGHT token's momentum and growing DEX volume, paints a cautiously optimistic picture. Investors will be watching closely to see if ADA can sustain its upward trajectory and break through key resistance levels.
