BitMine (BMNR) shares are trading in a narrow band today, hovering near a technical milestone that could signal further upside. The stock is on the verge of forming a golden cross, a bullish pattern where the 50-day exponential moving average crosses above the 200-day average. This comes as the company's Ethereum accumulation strategy approaches its stated goal of owning 5% of all ETH in circulation.

At the time of writing, BMNR trades at $27.82, well above its year-to-date low of $12.80. The stock has climbed steadily since bottoming at $12.95 in June, a rally that has coincided with a rebound in Ethereum's price from around $1,500 to the current $2,695. The recent advance has pushed the stock above a key resistance level at $26.90, its highest point since late August, and has formed a bullish flag pattern on the daily chart.

Strategy's Smallest 2026 Bitcoin Buy: 250 BTC at $86,194 as MSTR Slips
Strategy bought only 250 BTC last week, its smallest purchase of 2026, at an average of $86,194 per coin. MSTR slipped as Bitcoin traded near $82,788.

The impending golden cross is particularly notable because it would be the first such signal for the stock since July of last year. The stock is also trading above the Supertrend indicator, a technical tool that often confirms bullish momentum. If the pattern holds, the next target could be the January high of $34.31, which would represent a gain of roughly 24% from current levels.

Beyond the technicals, the fundamental story centers on BitMine's aggressive Ethereum buying. The company has been accumulating ETH through dollar-cost averaging over the past 15 months, and its holdings now exceed 6 million coins. That represents approximately 4.9% of the total ETH supply, which stands at about 122.1 million. A few more purchases would bring the company to its 5% target.

In a recent statement, Tom Lee, a key figure at BitMine, expressed confidence in the ongoing crypto bull market. He noted that institutions remain underweight crypto and expects them to increase exposure in the final months of 2026. Lee also highlighted that BitMine is transitioning from a dilutive company to one generating substantial income through staking, with annualized staking revenue of approximately $358 million from 5.1 million staked tokens.

The company's balance sheet also includes 213 Bitcoin, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries, and $672 million in cash and marketable securities. Based on a sum-of-parts valuation, BitMine appears undervalued. Its market capitalization is $16.6 billion, while its Ethereum holdings alone are worth $16.2 billion, leaving little room for the other assets to be factored in.

Investors are also watching the performance of EightCo, a related entity, whose stock recently jumped to $1.20, its highest level since April. EightCo holds WLD tokens worth over $112 million, Ethereum tokens worth $39 million, and a $90 million stake in OpenAI. That OpenAI stake could increase in value as the company considers raising capital at a $1.2 trillion valuation.

While the technical and fundamental signals appear constructive, the stock remains sensitive to Ethereum's price movements and broader crypto market sentiment. The completion of the 5% ETH target and the golden cross could provide additional catalysts, but investors should remain aware of the inherent volatility in both the stock and the underlying digital asset.
