Bitget has released its Web3 Next-Gen Talent Intelligence Report, revealing that the blockchain industry faces a significant talent access challenge rather than a talent shortage. The study, conducted under Bitget's Blockchain4Youth (B4Y) initiative, surveyed aspiring and early-career professionals across multiple regions and found that over 54% of respondents identified prior experience requirements for junior positions as the biggest obstacle to entering the industry.

Key Findings on Employment Barriers

The report highlights a growing disconnect between education and employment in the Web3 sector. While blockchain education expands globally, employment pathways have not kept pace. More than 52% of respondents stated that their education provided theoretical knowledge but lacked practical, job-ready skills. This gap suggests that many qualified candidates struggle to gain the experience needed to enter the industry, reinforcing the conclusion that the sector faces a talent access challenge.

Demographics and Regional Insights

Emerging markets are playing a pivotal role in shaping the future Web3 workforce. Nigeria, Indonesia, and China accounted for nearly half of all respondents, reflecting how blockchain education and career interest are expanding beyond traditional technology hubs. Nearly 46% of participants were between the ages of 23 and 30, while more than 58% held Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degrees. This indicates a highly educated talent pool that is motivated but unable to transition into employment.

Career Interests and Skill Gaps

The report also highlights evolving talent interests. AI and blockchain convergence emerged as the most sought-after career path, selected by 61% of respondents. Despite strong enthusiasm, practical industry exposure remains a missing piece. 62% of respondents selected mentorship from experienced professionals as the support mechanism most likely to accelerate their careers. This underscores the need for structured learning pathways that combine technical education with real-world experience.

Bitget's Blockchain4Youth initiative aims to address these gaps. The Blockchain4Youth Learning Hub, which recently surpassed 10,000 registered learners worldwide, combines blockchain fundamentals, DeFi education, industry insights, and emerging technology topics. Participants who complete the programme receive a certificate that can be used to access priority review for selected opportunities within Bitget and the Blockchain4Youth Talent Alliance.

Industry Implications

Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget, commented: “The industry has succeeded in attracting talent globally. The challenge now is converting talent into employment. The findings show there is a large pool of motivated and educated candidates, but many are struggling to take the first step into the industry. Closing this gap will be critical for the next phase of industry growth.”

The report concludes that stronger collaboration between educational institutions, employers, learning platforms, and industry participants will be needed to bridge the gap between education and employment. This approach is reflected in initiatives like Bitget's VIP Miracle Badge Program and the Bitget Stock+ platform, which aim to connect digital asset users with broader financial opportunities.

As the Web3 workforce continues to evolve, the report emphasizes that practical experience and mentorship are critical for converting educated candidates into employed professionals. The findings serve as a call to action for the industry to develop more accessible entry points and structured career pathways.
