XRP advanced more than 7% over a 24-hour window as a weekend rally across digital assets lifted prices and forced bearish traders to unwind leveraged positions. The token outperformed several large-cap peers, putting the scale of the short squeeze and Ripple's expanding payments business in focus.

Trading volume climbed 155% to $7.4 billion during the same period, equal to roughly 7% of XRP's circulating market capitalization. The higher turnover indicates that participation widened as the price rose, though volume data alone cannot distinguish fresh buying from traders simply closing existing positions.

Strategy's Smallest 2026 Bitcoin Buy: 250 BTC at $86,194 as MSTR Slips
Strategy bought only 250 BTC last week, its smallest purchase of 2026, at an average of $86,194 per coin. MSTR slipped as Bitcoin traded near $82,788.

A marketwide squeeze adds fuel

The move coincided with gains across much of the crypto market. According to CoinGlass, short liquidations in crypto futures reached $854 million. Liquidations occur when leveraged traders can no longer meet margin requirements on positions that have moved against them. Rising prices forced traders who had bet on declines to buy back the asset or contract, a process that can intensify an upward move when many positions unwind at once.

Whether turnover stays elevated above $1.50 is now a key question. A breakout backed by sustained activity would offer a firmer signal than a brief spike driven mainly by forced buying.

Ripple's business push runs alongside the chart

Beyond the marketwide rally, investors are tracking Ripple's efforts to broaden its blockchain payments footprint. The company has pursued licensing, built out a prime brokerage operation, and launched its Ripple USD stablecoin, known as RLUSD. More recently, it released a developer kit designed to help programmers build AI agents capable of making payments on the XRP Ledger using RLUSD. If developers adopt those tools, transaction activity on the network could increase.

Technical picture: $1.50 becomes the line to hold

On the daily chart, XRP has broken out of a flag pattern that had been tracked for several weeks. A flag forms when price consolidates after a strong move, and traders often watch for a break above the pattern as a sign the earlier advance could resume.

The immediate test is whether XRP can hold above $1.50 after surging past that resistance. A daily close above the level could signal that buyers are targeting $1.80 as the next psychological barrier. Such a move would suggest demand is holding up after the initial surge and the marketwide short squeeze.

If the rally persists, the next major target would be $2.10. Whether XRP approaches it will depend on the strength of follow-through buying, broader crypto market conditions, and the extent to which Ripple's initiatives translate into measurable network use.

For now, the more than 7% rise, higher trading volume and flag breakout have put buyers in control of the immediate price action. Holding those gains above $1.50 would offer a stronger indication that the rally can continue once the forced buying from short liquidations fades.
