World Chain has announced the deployment of streamed EIP-7928 block access lists on its Layer-2 network, a first for a production blockchain. The upgrade, scheduled for Aug. 17 on World Chain Mainnet, is designed to boost transaction throughput without placing additional hardware demands on validators.

EIP-7928 introduces full block access lists that record the blockchain state each transaction reads and writes. This allows validators to verify independent transactions in parallel across multiple CPU cores, rather than processing each transaction sequentially. World Chain extends the specification by streaming this access list data every 200 milliseconds through its flashblock architecture, enabling validators to start verifying transactions while a block is still being assembled.

According to World Chain, this approach distributes the verification workload throughout the block-building process, reducing validation time and allowing throughput to scale to as much as one gigagas per second. The company says internal testing on its test networks showed that validation latency remained largely stable as throughput increased, even when using standard cloud infrastructure.

Traditionally, validators must verify every transaction in a block one after another before confirming the block. As networks process more transactions, validators typically require greater computing power to keep up. World Chain's implementation aims to break that correlation, allowing networks to increase transaction throughput without a corresponding increase in computing resources for validators.

The feature will be introduced through a runtime flag rather than a hard fork, unlike Ethereum's planned implementation of EIP-7928 as part of the proposed Glamsterdam upgrade. This allows client operators to upgrade before the Aug. 17 mainnet rollout without requiring a coordinated network-wide upgrade.

World Chain's move comes amid broader efforts to scale Ethereum's ecosystem. The company says its rollout marks the first production implementation of streamed EIP-7928 block access lists and contributes to Ethereum's scaling roadmap.
