Warby Parker shares climbed to $26.95 on Thursday, marking their strongest level since late August and extending a rebound of more than 15% from the week's low. The rally lifted the company's market capitalization to approximately $2.89 billion. Despite the bounce, the stock remains one of the most heavily shorted names in the consumer sector, indicating that a significant portion of the market still anticipates further downside.
The recent volatility follows a steady decline from a June peak of $30.90. Investors have been weighing the company's growth trajectory, margin pressures, and a valuation that stands well above both the broader market and key competitors. In the second quarter, Warby Parker reported revenue of $236 million, a 10% year-over-year increase that topped analyst expectations. The growth was driven by higher average revenue per customer and an expanding active customer base, supported by the company's ongoing store opening strategy, which has brought its total locations to 352.
However, that growth rate is only modestly above the 8.7% recorded by EssilorLuxottica, a much larger and more established player in the eyewear industry. Management raised its full-year guidance, now projecting revenue between $959 million and $976 million, which at the upper end would represent annual growth of 12%. The company is betting on its upcoming intelligent eyewear line, developed in collaboration with Google Gemini, to accelerate growth. The product is expected to feature voice-activated assistance, real-time translation, and integrated cameras.
Analysts project that Warby Parker's revenue could reach $1.14 billion next year, a 17% increase from the expected 2026 figure, largely driven by the intelligent eyewear segment. Yet, the company's valuation remains a sticking point. Its trailing twelve-month price-to-earnings ratio stands at 57, and the forward multiple is 55.66. Both figures are significantly higher than the S&P 500's average of 19.1 and EssilorLuxottica's 27.
The analyst community holds a cautious outlook. The average price target among analysts is $26.6, slightly below the current trading level. Individual targets vary widely: UBS has a $28 target, Citizens sees $29, Bank of America $33, BTIG $34, and Citigroup a more conservative $24. This dispersion reflects the uncertainty surrounding the company's growth sustainability and valuation support.
From a technical perspective, the stock formed a double-bottom pattern near $22.47, which is a common bullish reversal signal. It has also moved above its 50-day exponential moving average and is attempting to break above the lower boundary of an ascending channel. The next key resistance level is at $28.13, while a drop below $25 would invalidate the bullish setup.
In summary, Warby Parker's rebound is notable, but the underlying concerns about growth deceleration and rich valuation multiples remain. Investors will be watching whether the intelligent eyewear launch can deliver the anticipated acceleration and justify the premium valuation.
