Uniswap's native token, UNI, is showing renewed strength after breaking out of a prolonged falling wedge pattern that had capped its price for nearly two years. The token recently touched an intraday high of $7.065, marking a more than 200% recovery from its June lows. This technical breakout, combined with improving momentum and stronger protocol fundamentals, has positioned UNI for a potential advance toward $12.70—an upside of roughly 80% from current levels—if buyers can clear a key resistance zone.
Token Burns and Ecosystem Expansion Bolster Fundamentals
The technical breakout coincides with significant changes to UNI's tokenomics. Following the implementation of the UNIfication proposal in December 2025, protocol fees from enabled Uniswap markets are now used to burn UNI tokens, permanently reducing circulating supply. In September alone, approximately 184,000 UNI—worth around $1.15 million at the time—was burned in a single day, highlighting the mechanism's growing impact. While continued burns could gradually tighten supply, the ultimate effect on price depends on broader market dynamics.
Uniswap has also expanded its reach across the blockchain ecosystem, integrating with Robinhood Chain and Circle's Arc network. These moves open new avenues for liquidity and trading activity, contributing to a surge in Uniswap's trading volume. The protocol has processed over $70 billion in volume in the past month, more than the next three decentralized exchanges combined, according to a recent tweet from Uniswap.
Large Holders Accumulate UNI
On-chain data suggests growing confidence among large holders. A wallet linked to BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes reportedly acquired approximately 284,000 UNI, worth around $2 million. Such accumulation by prominent figures often signals bullish sentiment, though it is not a guarantee of future performance.
Technical Outlook: Key Levels to Watch
UNI's rally follows a breakout from a falling wedge that began after the token peaked near $19.50 in late 2024. During the decline, UNI formed lower highs and lower lows within two converging trendlines. Falling wedges are often interpreted as bullish reversal patterns when price breaks decisively above the upper boundary. UNI broke above the wedge in August and has continued climbing, reclaiming its 20-week, 50-week, and 100-week exponential moving averages, which currently sit around $4.59, $4.89, and $5.91, respectively.
However, the 200-week EMA near $7.78 remains a critical hurdle. A decisive weekly close above this level could confirm additional upside momentum and put the $12.70 region in focus. That target corresponds with the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement level and previously served as notable resistance during UNI's 2024 rally.
UNI's weekly Relative Strength Index (RSI) has risen to approximately 65, indicating strong buying momentum while remaining below overbought thresholds. This suggests there is still room for further upside without immediate risk of a sharp pullback.
For broader context, similar technical setups have been observed in other assets. For instance, XRP eyes a potential 48% rally if it can break through its own resistance level. Meanwhile, HYPE defied an $820 million unlock with record open interest and buybacks, showing how tokenomics can influence price action.
While the bullish case for UNI is compelling, traders should remain cautious. The $7.78 level has proven significant in the past, and a failure to close above it could lead to consolidation or a pullback. As always, investors should conduct their own research and consider their risk tolerance.
