Tesla shares have traded in a choppy range over the past several sessions, easing from a recent high of $384 to around $372 as investors weigh competing signals about the electric vehicle maker's near-term trajectory. Two scheduled events this week are drawing particular attention from market participants.
Q3 delivery report in focus
The company is set to publish third-quarter delivery figures, a data point that typically serves as the clearest real-time gauge of demand across its vehicle lineup. Wall Street expectations have been revised lower in recent weeks. Goldman Sachs cut its estimate to 435,000 units from a prior 490,000, while Barclays analysts project 475,000. Prediction market traders on Kalshi are pricing a slightly higher figure near 479,000. The dispersion in estimates underscores how uncertain the demand picture has become.
Several crosscurrents are shaping the delivery outlook. Elevated diesel and gasoline prices in key markets have made electric vehicles more attractive on a total cost of ownership basis, potentially supporting demand. At the same time, competition in China, Tesla's largest market by volume, has intensified significantly, with domestic manufacturers such as BYD and Nio pressing aggressively on pricing and features. Operating costs in that region remain elevated, adding margin pressure.
Roadster launch event
Tesla will also host an event to unveil its Roadster, a vehicle first shown as a concept in 2019 when the company began accepting deposits. At that time, CEO Elon Musk indicated pricing would start at $200,000, with a Founder's Series edition at $250,000. Whether those figures will be adjusted for current cost conditions is unclear. The event could include additional product or strategic announcements, which in past Tesla presentations have moved the stock.
Bitcoin exposure as a secondary factor
Tesla continues to hold 11,509 bitcoins on its balance sheet, a position acquired for roughly $386 million and now valued at approximately $973 million. Bitcoin's recovery from a July low near $57,300 to around $84,000 has coincided with strong inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs and rising futures open interest. While this holding is not a primary driver of Tesla's equity story, mark-to-market gains can influence quarterly results and investor sentiment.
Technical picture offers conflicting signals
On the daily chart, Tesla remains above both its 50-day and 100-day exponential moving averages, a configuration that generally favors the bullish case. The stock has also traced a megaphone formation, a pattern that can precede continued upside. However, a recent bearish engulfing candle, in which a down session fully overlapped the prior up session, suggests the possibility of a reversal toward the $300 area. The mixed technical backdrop mirrors the fundamental uncertainty around deliveries and competitive dynamics.
Investors will be watching the delivery release and Roadster event closely for any indication of how Tesla's demand and product pipeline are developing into the fourth quarter.
