Nvidia's shares have continued their upward trajectory, hovering near all-time highs as the company's market capitalization approaches $6 trillion. The stock peaked at $243 on Tuesday before retreating to around $239. Despite the strong momentum, a bearish technical pattern is emerging ahead of the third-quarter earnings report.

Rising Demand and Share Buybacks

Demand for Nvidia's chips remains robust, with several companies raising capital to acquire them. SpaceX is reportedly in the process of securing a $40 billion debt package from Apollo Global to fund chip purchases. Similarly, Australia's Firmus is planning an initial public offering to raise over $5 billion, partly for Nvidia chips. British neocloud firm Nscale is raising $3 billion at a $35 billion valuation, and Lambda, backed by Nvidia, is also scaling its data centers.

Northland analyst Mike Latimore upgraded C3.ai to Outperform and raised his price target to $16, pointing to the C3 Code platform and a compressed valuation multiple.

Hyperscalers are expected to maintain aggressive spending. Gartner projects AI spending will surge 50% this year to $2.7 trillion, benefiting Nvidia as the leading GPU provider. This trend suggests Nvidia's revenue growth could exceed expectations. Analysts had forecast about 40% growth for 2027, but the company guided for around 70% growth, historically conservative guidance that often results in actual figures beating forecasts.

Nvidia's management has accelerated its share buyback program, announcing a $150 billion buyback last week on top of an ongoing $80 billion plan. Outstanding shares have dropped to 24.15 billion from a 2025 high of 25 billion, signaling confidence in the company's valuation. The forward price-to-earnings ratio stands at 25, well below the five-year average of 42.

Risks and Analyst Sentiment

Despite the positive outlook, some analysts warn of a potential AI bubble. Billionaire Ray Dalio recently cautioned that rising US bond yields could trigger a burst. However, many analysts remain optimistic. BNP Paribas reiterated an outperform rating with a $345 target, Cantor Fitzgerald set a $350 target, and Rosenblatt raised its target to $390.

Technical Analysis

From a technical perspective, Nvidia's stock has broken above the crucial resistance level of $235, its highest swing in May, confirming a bullish breakout. It remains above the 50-day moving average and the Supertrend indicator. However, the formation of a rising wedge pattern, characterized by two converging upward trendlines, often precedes a bearish reversal, especially as the lines near their confluence.

Investors will be watching closely as the company approaches its earnings report, with the wedge pattern adding a layer of uncertainty to an otherwise strong fundamental story.
