Micron Technology shares have climbed back above the upper boundary of an ascending triangle formation, a technical setup that often precedes sharp directional moves. The stock recently traded at $1,082, well above its July trough of $737, as investors position themselves ahead of the company's fourth-quarter earnings report due this week.
Earnings Expectations Point to Explosive Growth
The memory chipmaker is expected to deliver another quarter of extraordinary revenue expansion, fueled by unrelenting demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. In its prior quarter, Micron reported revenue of $41.5 billion, a 346% year-over-year increase that surpassed both analyst forecasts and internal guidance.
For the current quarter, management has guided revenue above $50 billion, which would represent growth of roughly 325%. Consensus estimates from Wall Street analysts sit slightly higher, above $51 billion, and some market participants anticipate an actual print closer to $55 billion given the pace of AI-related orders.
Earnings per share are forecast to average $31.59, a dramatic leap from the $3.03 reported in the same period last year. The surge reflects Micron's pricing power in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, where supply constraints have allowed the company to raise prices without ceding market share.
Valuation Metrics Remain Attractive
Despite the stock's substantial run-up, several analysts argue that Micron remains undervalued relative to peers and the broader market. The forward price-to-earnings ratio stands at 14.70, below the sector median of 25 and the S&P 500 average of 19. The forward PEG ratio is just 0.03, compared with a sector median of 0.68.
When combining revenue growth and margins, Micron's multiple reaches 390%, far exceeding the 40% threshold that often signals a compelling growth opportunity. These metrics have drawn bullish calls from major investment banks. Rosenblatt has a $1,500 price target, Wells Fargo sees $1,400, and both Cantor Fitzgerald and Barclays project the stock could reach $2,000.
Technical Setup Supports Further Upside
On the daily chart, Micron has formed an ascending triangle, a pattern characterized by a horizontal resistance line and a rising support trendline. The stock has broken above this formation and also trades above its 50-day exponential moving average. Meanwhile, the relative strength index has carved out an ascending channel, another bullish signal.
If the breakout holds, bulls will likely target the June 25 high of $1,255 as the next resistance level. A decisive move above that point could open the door to $1,500 or higher, aligning with the more optimistic analyst targets.
Investors should note that earnings events can produce volatile reactions, and technical patterns do not guarantee future performance. The actual results and forward guidance will ultimately determine whether Micron's stock can sustain its parabolic trajectory.
