MemeBitcoin (MBTC), a Bitcoin-native initiative that gamifies the race to access Satoshi Nakamoto's dormant wallets, has secured $8 million in a strategic funding round. The investment was led by Gemhead Capital, Archer Capital, M2M Capital, and Mayer Venture, signaling strong institutional interest in the project's novel approach to a long-standing crypto vulnerability.
The funds will be deployed to accelerate MBTC's next growth phase, which includes a global community campaign, a full public launch, and preparations for exchange listings. The project's core premise revolves around the estimated 1,096,361 BTC held in Satoshi-era wallets, whose public keys have been visible on-chain since 2009. While this exposure was once a theoretical concern, advances in quantum computing have made it a pressing issue.
MBTC's solution is to make the problem participatory. Through its web app, users generate and test candidate private keys against Satoshi's public key, complete missions, and share content, with every action logged as a contribution. The project has no team token allocation; the entire supply is distributed through participation. Its dual goal is to generate public pressure to move Satoshi-era coins to safer addresses before quantum hardware matures, and if they remain unmoved, to be the first to access them using the collective data and effort of its community.
As of late August 2026, MBTC reports 23,700 total users, with 18,350 daily active users (DAU), a 92% social and game completion rate, and 85% registered user retention. The project has logged 2.4 million Satoshi wallet decryption attempts and received collaboration requests from over 200 projects, with 100+ global KOLs engaged. Notably, roughly 77% of registered users return daily, a figure that stands out in a space where registration spikes often fade quickly. This growth has been driven primarily by referrals rather than paid advertising.
“Quantum computing is the problem crypto has spent fifteen years assuming someone else would solve later,” said Rodney Uesaka, Co-Founder of MemeBitcoin. “But the public keys in Satoshi-era wallets have been exposed since 2009, and if those keys are ever broken, the industry Bitcoin created is what stands to lose the most.” Uesaka emphasized that the project's community is its biggest asset, and this round will provide them with a better platform to participate and push the conversation about protecting Satoshi-era Bitcoin across the industry.
The capital will fund MBTC's whitelist early access phase, which opens the full site, forum, wallet connect, and PoV (Proof of Viral) activation, followed by a global KOL campaign, full public launch, and preparation for spot and futures listings on centralized exchanges. The team behind MBTC has prior experience, having taken a previous token from launch to listings on major exchanges like Binance Alpha, Binance Futures, Bybit Futures, Bitget, Kraken, HTX, and HashKey, and into the global top 50 by market capitalization.
Investor backing adds credibility. Gemhead Capital has a track record of backing projects that later list on Binance, including COOKIE, NILLION, and PRAI. Archer Capital's portfolio includes early investments in Ethena and Renzo Protocol, both of which achieved significant growth. M2M Capital focuses on Web3 and AI, aiming to identify potential unicorns. This mix of strategic investors suggests confidence in MBTC's model and its potential to address a critical issue in Bitcoin's security.
As the crypto industry grapples with the implications of quantum computing, MBTC's community-driven approach offers a unique, if unconventional, solution. Whether it can achieve its ambitious goals remains to be seen, but the funding round provides the resources to scale its efforts and bring the conversation to a wider audience.
