Marvell Technology (MRVL) saw its stock climb 2% in Monday trading as the semiconductor firm unveiled a new suite of 2-nanometer optical connectivity solutions at the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) 2026 in Málaga, Spain. The demonstrations target the escalating bandwidth demands of AI data centers, where faster links between accelerators, processors, and memory are critical while keeping power consumption in check.

At the conference, Marvell highlighted what it calls the industry's first 2nm 400G-per-lane optical PAM4 technology, along with a 2nm 800G ZR/ZR+ pluggable module featuring enhanced security, and 2nm 1.6T ZR and coherent-lite solutions. These products are engineered to boost bandwidth density and reduce power per bit, addressing the infrastructure bottlenecks that arise as AI workloads scale.

Meta Stock Jumps 4% as New AI Models Target Complex Tasks
Meta stock gained more than 4% Monday after the company unveiled two new AI models designed for multi-step tasks, with analysts staying bullish before Q3 earnings.

The company emphasized that its advanced optical and silicon design leverages leading-edge process nodes to improve performance, bandwidth density, and power efficiency—factors it sees as essential for expanding AI infrastructure. ECOC is Europe's premier event for fiber-optic communications and optical networking, with over 340 exhibitors and sessions dedicated to AI infrastructure and optical technology demonstrations.

As AI chips grow faster, data centers require connectivity that can move vast amounts of data between processors and memory at higher speeds. AI data-center architectures are transitioning from 1.6T connectivity toward 3.2T and beyond, driving the need for optical links that deliver higher bandwidth without significantly increasing power draw. Marvell's 400G-per-lane demonstration is designed to support this shift, while its 1.6T technologies target high-bandwidth connections both within and between data-center facilities.

Marvell also showcased a 102.4-terabit-per-second co-packaged optics platform, which integrates optical connectivity more closely with AI accelerators and switch silicon. This approach addresses the limitations of traditional copper connections, which struggle with distance and power constraints at higher speeds. The company plans to feature 38 technology demonstrations at ECOC, covering areas such as 224G SerDes, 1.6T optics, coherent interconnects, and optical memory fabrics.

Marvell is not alone in pushing optical innovation. Lumentum, Qualcomm, and Corning are jointly demonstrating a high-density optical die-to-die interconnect for AI scale-up systems, combining Qualcomm's interface technology with Lumentum's 1060 nm VCSEL optical platform and Corning's multimode fiber. These efforts target higher-bandwidth, lower-power links as AI systems approach the practical limits of electrical connectivity.

Analyst sentiment on Marvell remains largely positive. Morgan Stanley's Joseph Moore maintained a Hold rating with a $246 price target, while Piper Sandler initiated coverage with an Overweight rating and a $270 target. Bank of America also reiterated its Buy rating. According to TipRanks, Marvell currently holds 22 Buy ratings and five Hold ratings from 27 analysts.

Marvell's ECOC demonstrations underscore the company's focus on optical connectivity as a cornerstone of the infrastructure needed to support increasingly demanding AI systems. As data centers push toward higher speeds and greater efficiency, optical technologies are becoming a critical differentiator in the semiconductor landscape.
