Lumentum Holdings (LITE) has surged to a record high, trading near $1,092, as demand for its high-speed optical products continues to accelerate. The stock has climbed more than 80% from its July low, pushing the company's market capitalization above $97 billion.

The rally is underpinned by robust spending on AI infrastructure, particularly in data centers. Lumentum's photonic solutions are critical for high-speed data transmission, making the company a key supplier to major cloud and AI players. Nvidia, a dominant force in AI chips, has invested $2 billion in Lumentum, and that stake has already appreciated by over 80%.

Nvidia's Co-Packaged Optics Push

Nvidia is scaling its co-packaged optics (CPO) technology, which integrates optical components directly into chips to boost performance and efficiency. According to GF Securities, Nvidia is expected to ship 15,000 CPO units in the fourth quarter, ramping to 16,000 and 30,000 in early and mid-2027, respectively. The firm projects shipments could reach 100,000 units next year, a trajectory that would significantly boost Lumentum's revenue.

Lumentum's latest quarterly results already reflect this momentum. Revenue jumped to $1 billion in the fourth quarter, with the components division contributing $649 million and systems adding $356 million. Gross margin expanded to 50.4% from 37.8% a year earlier, underscoring the company's pricing power and operational leverage.

Analyst Expectations and Risks

Wall Street sees further upside. The average estimate for first-quarter revenue is $1.25 billion, a 134% year-over-year increase, with the most optimistic forecast at $1.26 billion. Earnings per share are projected to surge from $1.10 to $4.21, positioning Lumentum among the fastest-growing companies in the U.S.

However, two key risks could temper the rally. First, a slowdown in data center spending would directly impact Lumentum's order book. While Gartner forecasts the data center market to grow to $3.64 trillion by 2027 from $2.67 trillion this year, any pullback in AI capex would be a headwind. Second, the stock's valuation is stretched. Lumentum trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 50, well above Nvidia's 24, Micron's 8, and the S&P 500's 19.

Technical Outlook

From a technical perspective, LITE stock has formed an inverted head-and-shoulders pattern, a classic bullish reversal signal. The price has broken above the 50-day and 100-day moving averages, and the Supertrend indicator remains bullish. The Average Directional Index (ADX) is rising, confirming strong momentum.

The path of least resistance appears higher, with the next target at $1,200. A drop below the $1,025 support level would invalidate the bullish setup and could trigger a pullback.
