Nu Holdings (NYSE: NU) has seen its share price decline roughly 30% from the January peak of $18.95, trading near $13.43. Despite this correction, Goldman Sachs analysts maintain a positive outlook, suggesting the drop reflects a valuation reset rather than a deterioration in fundamentals.
In a recent research note, Goldman Sachs highlighted Nu's entry into the U.S. market as a key long-term catalyst. The bank believes the company's ultra-low-cost digital model, combined with strong customer service, could allow it to gain meaningful market share. The note stated: "We think NU's ultra-low-cost digital approach with a strong consumer experience could allow it to successfully enter the market."
Analyst Consensus and Price Targets
Wall Street remains largely constructive on Nu Holdings. Rothschild and Needham have set price targets of $19, while Wolfe Research targets $17. UBS and JPMorgan are more optimistic with targets of $18.20 and $20, respectively. These targets imply significant upside from current levels.
Strong User Growth and Expansion
The company's latest quarterly results showed continued momentum. Nu added nearly 4 million customers in Q2, bringing its global user base to 139 million. Brazil remains the core market with 118 million users, representing over half of the country's population. In Mexico, Nu has attracted 15.8 million customers, and its Colombian operations have surpassed 5 million users.
Nu is also exploring expansion into the UK. Reports indicated the company considered bidding for Monzo, a major UK neobank, but walked away after Monzo demanded a £10 billion valuation.
Technical Analysis and Outlook
From a technical perspective, Nu shares have formed a down-gap following the Monzo reports, which was later filled after the company denied the rumors. The stock remains below its 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) and the Strong Pivot Reverse level of the Murrey Math Lines tool, indicating bearish momentum in the short term.
However, analysts suggest that if the stock can break above the $14 resistance level, it could rally toward the $15 mark. The recent pullback may present an opportunity for long-term investors, given the company's robust growth trajectory and expanding market presence.
Goldman Sachs' bullish stance is supported by Nu's ability to scale efficiently across multiple Latin American markets while maintaining a low-cost structure. The U.S. entry, though competitive, could provide an additional growth avenue if executed successfully.
Investors should monitor upcoming earnings and any developments regarding international expansion. The stock's ability to hold above key support levels will be crucial in determining its near-term direction.
