EASE Automations, a Chicago-based telecommunications workforce and network transformation partner, has announced the completion of a multi-year engagement supporting a Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) Emulation initiative for a major wholesale voice and Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) provider. The project, which began in 2023 and accelerated in 2024, aimed to modernize legacy TDM infrastructure while reducing operational costs.
Over the course of the engagement, EASE Automations deployed a specialized team that grew to approximately 35–40 telecommunications professionals. These experts handled network provisioning, circuit design, implementation, carrier coordination, validation, and the retirement of legacy transport systems. The initiative targeted the elimination of roughly $5 million per month in leased TDM transport expenses, translating to an estimated $60 million in annual recurring cost reductions. It is important to note that these figures represent the program's cost-reduction objectives, not independently verified savings.
The scope of the project spanned more than 300 collocation environments, where EASE-supported professionals designed and provisioned both IP and TDM connectivity. This work brought interconnections closer to the carrier edge, enabled IP backhaul, and facilitated the retirement of leased TDM transport. The effort required close coordination with carrier organizations, internal engineering teams, vendors, and network operations personnel to move locations from design through activation.
Operational Continuity as a Key Focus
A central element of the initiative was maintaining operational continuity throughout the transformation. As EASE Automations' responsibilities expanded, its team developed deep institutional knowledge of the client's network infrastructure, provisioning processes, carrier relationships, and operational dependencies. Retaining this expertise was critical to sustaining project execution as the modernization progressed.
Stan Scott, Managing Director of EASE Automations, emphasized the complexity of the work: “Modernizing a carrier network is not simply about installing new technology. The real work is making every interconnection, carrier order, provisioning dependency, activation, and cutover line up without disrupting the business. EASE Automations built and sustained a team that could operate in that complexity at scale.”
Implications for the Telecommunications Sector
The completion of this engagement underscores the growing importance of specialized workforce deployment in large-scale network modernization projects. Telecommunications providers are increasingly turning to external partners to manage the intricacies of TDM-to-IP migration, especially as legacy systems become costlier to maintain. EASE Automations' role highlights a trend where operational continuity and domain expertise are as vital as the technology itself.
For investors, this development signals that companies offering managed services for network transformation may see sustained demand as carriers continue to upgrade infrastructure. The focus on cost reduction through legacy transport retirement also reflects broader industry pressures to optimize recurring expenses.
EASE Automations' capabilities include network provisioning, circuit design, implementation coordination, carrier management, TDM-to-IP enablement, network validation, and legacy transport retirement. The company positions itself as a strategic partner for telecommunications organizations seeking to modernize while minimizing disruption.
