Chainlink's LINK token is testing the $16 level after a sharp rally that has outpaced the broader cryptocurrency market. The token traded near $15.16 on Sept. 29, up about 2.4% in 24 hours and nearly 18% over seven days, according to market data. It briefly touched $15.78 during the session, recovering from a low below $12.50 as recently as Sept. 24.
The move stands out because Bitcoin has been range-bound around $83,000 to $84,000, suggesting that LINK's gains are driven by project-specific developments rather than a market-wide surge. That divergence has put the $16 resistance level in focus for traders and investors.
CCIP 2.0 upgrade provides the catalyst
The primary driver behind the rally appears to be Chainlink's launch of CCIP 2.0 on Sept. 28. The upgrade introduces additional controls designed for institutions and digital asset issuers moving assets between blockchains. Users can now add issuer, third-party, or institution-operated Cross Chain Verifiers on top of Chainlink's existing verification network.
CCIP 2.0 also enables faster-than-finality transfers, allowing institutions to adjust confirmation requirements based on their own risk thresholds. It adds configurable execution, modular fees, and native integration with the Chainlink Automated Compliance Engine, which applies compliance policies to cross-chain transactions.
The launch matters because Chainlink is positioning CCIP as infrastructure for institutions issuing and transferring tokenized assets across public and private blockchains. Existing users cited by Chainlink include Swift, DTCC, Euroclear, UBS, Wellington Management, ANZ Bank, Fidelity International, and SBI Digital Markets.
Swift integration strengthens institutional narrative
On the same day, Chainlink announced a way for financial institutions to connect their existing systems to Swift's blockchain ledger through the Chainlink Runtime Environment. Banks using the system retain control of the cryptographic keys used to authorize transactions, while CRE coordinates workflows between their systems and Swift's ledger.
The infrastructure is intended to support tokenized deposits and smart contract transactions without requiring institutions to hand control of their signing keys to Chainlink. Swift said in July that its blockchain ledger was ready for initial use, with 17 banks across six continents preparing to pilot live transactions using tokenized deposits. The ledger aims to support 24-hour cross-border payments and improve liquidity efficiency.
Whale accumulation and technical setup
Large LINK holders had already been accumulating before the announcements. According to Santiment, whales added more than 2.5 million LINK over roughly 10 days as the token approached its latest breakout.
From a technical perspective, LINK has recovered from a June low around $7 and advanced through $10, $12, and $14 before reaching its intraday high. The daily Heikin Ashi candles have remained predominantly green, with expanding bodies as price moved through the $13 to $15 region. The Rate of Change on the daily timeframe stood at 21.30, indicating strong upward momentum.
Immediate resistance sits around $15.70 to $16. A daily close above $16 would clear that barrier and leave relatively little visible resistance until the $17 to $17.70 region, an area where LINK traded during parts of August and October 2025. On-chain data has identified $17.70 as another large historical acquisition area.
On the 4-hour chart, On Balance Volume has climbed to approximately 2.5 million, its highest reading in the period shown, suggesting that volume on advancing candles has outweighed volume during declines. However, volatility has also increased, with the 14-period Average True Range rising to about 0.489, making larger intraday pullbacks more likely.
The first support area is around $14.50 to $15. Holding that region would keep $16 within reach, while a loss of $14.50 could expose $13.50 to $14.
