Bitget has broadened its Open API infrastructure to include Contracts for Difference (CFDs), allowing algorithmic and quantitative traders to execute strategies across global markets such as gold, forex, stock indices, and crude oil—alongside their existing cryptocurrency operations. This move is part of the exchange's broader push to become a multi-asset trading hub.
Unified infrastructure for multi-asset strategies
Previously, traders operating across both crypto and traditional markets often had to juggle separate systems, data feeds, and execution pipelines. With the CFD Open API, existing Bitget API users can now extend their existing strategy frameworks into CFD markets without building a separate connection. This integration allows for more cohesive research, monitoring, and execution within a single API environment.
Key features of the CFD Open API
The new API enables users to automate order placement, access real-time account and market data, transfer funds, and manage trading parameters such as take-profit and stop-loss levels. It supports multiple CFD account modes, and users must specify the correct instrument code corresponding to their account configuration when placing orders.
This development is particularly significant for developers and quantitative traders who rely on programmatic access to manage complex strategies. By unifying crypto and CFD trading under one API, Bitget aims to reduce operational friction and enhance efficiency for professional traders.
Strategic context
The API expansion follows Bitget's recent infrastructure upgrades, including raising its institutional API limit to 600 requests per second per user ID, as reported in our earlier coverage. The exchange has also seen non-crypto volume grow to 40% of total activity, underscoring its commitment to diversifying beyond digital assets. Additionally, Bitget has introduced innovative products like GPU compute perpetuals, further broadening its offerings.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, emphasized that multi-asset trading is about providing traders with the tools to interact with markets in ways that suit their workflows. “By extending API access to CFDs, we are enabling developers, quantitative traders, and other API users to incorporate global markets into the systems and strategies they already use,” she said.
Implications for traders
For investors and institutions, this move signals a growing trend among crypto exchanges to bridge the gap between digital and traditional finance. By offering a unified API for both asset classes, Bitget is positioning itself as a one-stop platform for multi-asset trading, potentially attracting a wider range of professional clients.
As the platform continues to invest in infrastructure for professional and institutional trading, the expansion of API connectivity is a logical step toward creating a more integrated trading ecosystem. Traders can now manage crypto and traditional market exposure through a single interface, streamlining their operations and potentially improving execution quality.
