Bitcoin is approaching a bullish moving-average crossover on its three-day chart, a technical pattern that has historically preceded substantial price gains. The setup has drawn attention as analysts weigh whether easing macroeconomic pressures and improving onchain metrics could help Bitcoin establish a bottom in October.

Bitcoin briefly dipped below $82,000 on Monday but has since recovered to trade around $84,011. Confirmation of the crossover would strengthen the technical recovery case, though it would not provide a reliable price target or timeline.

BitMine increased its Ethereum stash by 12,532 ETH last week, pushing total holdings to 6.028M tokens. Despite over $4B in unrealized losses, Chairman Tom Lee sees multiple catalysts for a major bull cycle.

Macroeconomic Pressure Shows Signs of Easing

Bitcoin's October correction may be nearing exhaustion after elevated Treasury yields, expensive oil, weaker ETF demand, and profit-taking weighed on the market. As of October 13, markets assigned roughly an 18% probability to a Federal Reserve rate increase in October. Brent crude has retreated from nearly $110 to around $105 a barrel, offering some relief even though energy prices remain elevated.

The upcoming November 3 US midterm elections could also influence sentiment as investors gain clarity on the political landscape, with a closely contested Senate adding uncertainty.

Onchain Indicators Support a Potential Bottom

Several onchain developments are bolstering the case for a Bitcoin bottom. Exchange reserves remain relatively low despite a recent uptick, suggesting readily available supply is contained compared with earlier levels. Bitcoin's Apparent Demand metric has recovered sharply from deeply negative territory, though it remains below zero, indicating improvement but not yet a positive reading.

Whale holdings have risen to approximately 3 million BTC and stayed elevated during the correction, suggesting large holders have maintained or increased their exposure. These indicators complement the emerging golden cross, but confirmation of a durable recovery will still depend on sustained demand and price strength.

Technical Forecast: Three-Day Golden Cross Approaches Confirmation

Bitcoin's 20-period exponential moving average on the three-day chart is nearing a move above its 200-period EMA, a configuration known as a golden cross. This signals that short-term momentum has improved relative to the longer-term trend. The crossover could form this week if the price recovery holds, with a sequence of higher highs and higher lows providing additional evidence of strengthening demand.

However, moving averages reflect past prices, so the signal can appear after a substantial recovery has already occurred and does not rule out subsequent pullbacks. Historical instances of this pattern have yielded significant gains: Bitcoin rose approximately 50.73% following the 2019 occurrence, 18.38% around the 2020 instance, and 32.23% during the 2023–2024 period, producing an average gain of 33.78%. The sample is small, and the rallies unfolded over different timeframes.

If the pattern plays out, Bitcoin could end the year trading above the $100,000 psychological level. However, the average should be treated as historical context rather than an expected return, a 30-day forecast, or a guaranteed outcome.

At present, bulls would need to surpass the $87,438 resistance level to bring $90,000 back into view for the first time since January, a move likely to attract renewed interest across major trading platforms. Conversely, a sustained decline below the longer-term moving average would weaken the bullish interpretation.
